North Gate Fest 2017

Our 12th Annual North Gate Music and Arts Fest will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017, on Chimes St., right at the gates of LSU. The festival goes from 4 – 11 PM.

This celebration of our unique and historic neighborhood features wonderful music on both a main stage and a singer-songwriter stage, delicious food from local restaurants, a large number of outstanding artists selling their creations, and Abita beer. Music on the main stage this year will be played by bands from the Baton Rouge Music Studios, Hydra Plane, Particle Devotion, Alabaster Stag, and Water Seed.

The singer-songwriter lineup includes Billy Calloway, Bex Hill, Saher Khan, Clara Bryan, Christina Ocmond, Nicholas Rains, and Brennan Breaux.

Louie’s Cafe was established next to LSU on Chimes Street in 1941. Louie served customers fresh made cheeseburgers, hashbrowns and omelets, and the café became an LSU institution.

The current owner, Jimmy, took over Louie’s Café in 1977, and the ten-stool diner continued the tradition there until 1986, when Jimmy decided to move to a nearby location with a little more space. There, Louie’s Cafe became what it is today, a 60 seat, 24-hour establishment with an expanded menu, serving bar-going college students as well as the breakfast and lunch crowd. Louie’s is popular all year around, but the most exciting time is the fall semester, during football season, because the cafe is within walking distance of the stadium.
